I've always been a morning person. According to some study, morning people are happier. Only 7% of young people are morning people but most of them become morning people by age 60. Yes, we know about older people getting up early and sleep early, and I heard good things about being a morning person but I'm not too sure if that is really true. When I tell people that I get up at five, they ask me my age. They think that I am old and I can't sleep in late, but that wasn't the case with me.
When I was a student, many classmates stay up late studying before the tests. I didn't. It doesn't mean that I was totally ready for the tests, but I had a belief that sleeping enough is more important than studying hard, and having more protein and vitamin C will give my brain a boost. I watched some kid's science show telling me so, so I always followed. The night before the test, I always went to bed early, no matter how ready I was for the test. Then, following morning, I get up early, have some beans for protein, and green tea for vitamin C. That was my preparation for the test.
I also sleep fast and sleep a lot. There were times that I couldn't do this because I had to work from very early in the morning to very late at night, but aside from that particular period, I sleep well. If I lie down on the bed, I think I go to sleep in seconds. I don't think I could even count ten sheep. There are only few nights that I remember in my life that I couldn't sleep in bed for a long time. This is quite a blessing. I hear about people not being able to sleep in the evening and getting tired the next day.
When I was young, I only met one person who was also a morning person. When you talk to people, people usually say that they can't get up early because they have low blood pressure. I don't know why they say that low blood pressure causes them trouble of getting up on time, but I think it is just an excuse. Because the only one morning person I met had very low blood pressure and her hands actually got extremely cold and caused her a lot of problems in winter. If she can get up early, then why not others? I always thought getting up early or late was a matter of discipline. If you sleep regularly at the same time in the evening, you can get up at the same time in the morning. I usually get up before the alarm starts. Sometimes I get up when the alarm makes clicking noise just before it starts.
So being a morning person for all my life, am I happy? Not very sure about that. Am I healthier than others? Not sure about that either, but thankfully I haven't had any serious illness. So after all, it might have made me healthy. I also said that I can sleep well, so that might be another sign that I am actually healthy. But, I think I'll never know as I can't compare myself being a night person.
