There are many different kinds of music. Music that sets the mood of the place, encourage people to buy, noisy intolerable music and annoying music. People hear music everywhere --- restaurants, malls, on the radio and TV. These are the type of music you didn't care to listen, and you didn't particularly select what you wanted to listen to. Some are pleasant, some are nice, but some aren't your type of music at all.
I think most of the teenagers spend a period of years listening to some pop/rock music. Lots of them still listen when they are young adults, then many of us get busy and forget about taking time listening to your favorite music.
Last evening, I was listening to my favorite singer. I haven't listened to my favorite pop/rock music for a long time and as I listened, I thought how much I missed listening. I'm still stuck at the era of CDs. Even if I listen to the music on mp3 player, I have to have my CDs and copy them. Now it is very very hard to find CD players and cassette players although record players are coming back. Every time when I watch my favorite TV show "Long Island Medium", I feel Theresa's frustration not being able to find a portable cassette recorder; she uses for recording her session giving messages from the client's dead relatives. Even though you can record on CDs, I don't think there is anything more convenient and easy to use than cassette recorder.
When I was a teenager, I exchange cassettes with friends. Recording my favorite music hoping my friends would love them, too, and listened to what my friends liked. Unfortunately, I never really found anyone who has the same taste as mine. Some people liked some of the songs that I recorded, and I liked some of the songs my friends recorded, but almost none of my close friends share the same taste in music. It is difficult to talk about the song with someone who doesn't share the same feelings towards it. When you are into the particular song, you can not listen to it as a background music. I can't read a book, I can't focus on computer, I just have to listen to the beauty of the voice and the music. I'm not very much of a multitasking person.
I don't listen to the same pop music that I listened as a teenager. These singers were great, but they are all old and retired, or their music had changed. I still like them when I listen to these old songs, but I find new young musicians who create or sing beautiful new pop music.
